VIENTIANE, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Lao weather bureau issued a warning urging the public to remain vigilant as continued rainfall is expected to increase the risk of flash floods and landslides.
According to a notice issued by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology under the Lao Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on Monday, a low-pressure system will continue affecting Laos, combined with southwesterly winds to bring scattered thunderstorms, moderate to heavy rain, and strong winds in some areas.
Authorities have identified high-risk areas for flooding and landslides, particularly in Khammuan, Bolikhamxay, and Huaphan provinces.
Residents and local authorities are advised to remain alert for possible flash floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall. Everyone should be prepared for weather extremes and keep track of forecasts, the weather bureau said. ■
