SYDNEY, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- A worker has died following a mobile equipment incident at a coal mine north of Sydney in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) on Monday.
Mining giant Glencore said in a statement that the incident occurred on Monday at the United Wambo Open Cut mine.
"Our immediate focus is on providing support to the worker's family and our employees," said Peter Sharpe, chief executive officer of Glencore's Australian coal business.
Glencore said that emergency services were on the scene and that mining operations at the site were suspended.
The mine began operation in 2020 and produced 6.1 million tonnes of metallurgical coal for export in 2025. ■
