HANOI, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's National Assembly (NA) on Monday approved a resolution appointing Nguyen Tien Hai as minister of home affairs for the 2026-2031 term, local media VnExpress reported.
The resolution was passed during the ongoing first extraordinary session of the 16th NA, according to the report.
Hai was formally appointed to the ministerial post 13 days after the prime minister named him acting minister of home affairs, the report added.
Hai, a member of both the 13th and 14th Central Committees of the Communist Party of Vietnam and a deputy to the 16th NA, previously served as secretary of the An Giang provincial Party Committee in southern Vietnam.
Vietnam's Ministry of Home Affairs is responsible for state administration in areas including the organization of the state administrative apparatus, local governments, civil servants, employment, social insurance, labor, wages, youth affairs, and emulation and commendation. ■
