MANILA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Nine people were rescued after a boat sank in the waters off a southern Philippine city on Sunday, according to local media reports.
According to the Manila Bulletin, four boats set out on Sunday from a coastal village in Zamboanga City, on the island of Mindanao, and were heading to a nearby island when one of them capsized.
The passengers included teachers, Air Force reservists, and volunteers who were on their way to the island to take part in a food distribution program for local residents, the reports said.
Rescuers said all passengers and crew members were rescued and taken to the island to continue their outreach work. ■
