SYDNEY, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- The government of the Australian state of Queensland on Sunday unveiled a draft legacy plan for public consultation, outlining a long-term vision for Brisbane's Victoria Park precinct, a key venue precinct for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Victoria Park Precinct Draft Legacy Plan aims to transform the precinct into a major destination for recreation, events, entertainment and parklands as part of the Games' legacy.
The document envisages a precinct that will be home to the new Brisbane Stadium, the National Aquatic Center, the Brisbane Showgrounds, an upgraded Main Arena and new residences that will serve as the Brisbane Athletes Village during the Games.
Jarrod Bleijie, deputy premier of Queensland, said in the foreword to the document that around two-thirds of Victoria Park will remain green and public space, featuring open parklands, restored waterways, and an accessible public realm with pedestrian and transport links, for everyone to enjoy every day, not just during the Games or other sporting events.
"We are not building venues for the four weeks of Olympic and Paralympic competition," he said. "We are building a precinct that will connect employment, education and healthcare centers with communities and serve Queenslanders for generations."
Public consultation on the draft plan will open on Monday morning and run through August and September, with the final legacy plan scheduled for release in 2027. ■
