YANGON, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will increase investment in the education sector to promote national education development, President Min Aung Hlaing said in a speech delivered at the second regular session of the third Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament) on Friday, according to The Global New Light of Myanmar on Saturday.
To promote the development of the education sector, 6.92 percent of the State budget will be allocated to the Ministry of Education in the 2026-2027 fiscal year, the president said.
Including education-related expenditures by other ministries, a total of 9.22 percent of the State budget will be spent on the education sector, he said.
In the upcoming 2027-2028 fiscal year, the allocation for the Ministry of Education will be increased to no less than 10 percent of the State budget, he said.
Plans are also being made to increase education sector spending to 15 percent of the State budget in the 2028-2029 fiscal year, he added.
The government will continue efforts to ensure school-age children have access to education, and special programs will be implemented in areas with weaker education systems to enable students to continue their education up to KG+9 level (from Kindergarten through Grade 9), he added. ■
