JAKARTA, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will prioritize electric vehicle incentives for domestically branded electric cars and motorcycles as part of efforts to strengthen the country's EV manufacturing industry, the country's Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said Thursday.

"We will prioritize nationally branded electric cars and motorcycles," Agus told reporters after a business forum and the 25th national working meeting of the Indonesian Engineers Association in Jakarta.

He said one of the priority recipients would be a nationally branded electric motorcycle scheduled to be launched by President Prabowo Subianto, adding that the vehicle would receive special incentives.

Agus did not disclose the form of the incentives or how they would be distributed to consumers or manufacturers.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said earlier that the government was preparing incentives for 100,000 electric cars and 100,000 electric motorcycles this year.

Purbaya estimated that the incentive for electric motorcycles would amount to 5 million rupiah (about 276 U.S. dollars) per unit, while the subsidy for electric cars had yet to be determined.
