NEW DELHI, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday met lawmakers from India's northeastern state of Assam to review the ongoing flood situation that has affected over 1.14 million people and killed 68 so far.
Sharing details of the meeting in a social media post, Modi said the discussion focused on the flood situation across various parts of Assam and reiterated that the federal government was working in close coordination with the local government to assist those affected by the disaster.
The authorities have set up 215 relief camps and 1,690 relief distribution centers in the affected districts, where 71,223 people have been provided food and shelter.
The floods have fully damaged 1,180 residential houses and another 9,926 houses have suffered partial damage.
Assam State Disaster Management Authority said 37,139 hectares of cropland remain submerged in water. ■
