TASHKENT, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Ten modernism sites in the Uzbek capital of Tashkent have been inscribed on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage List, Uzbekistan's Cultural Heritage Agency said Monday.
The decision was announced at the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee held in Busan, South Korea, on Sunday.
The national nomination, titled "Tashkent Modernist Architecture. Modernity and Tradition in Central Asia," features 10 iconic architectural monuments from the second half of the 20th century. The inscription marks a key milestone in Uzbekistan's efforts to gain international recognition for its modernist architectural heritage, according to the agency.
It said this ensemble becomes Uzbekistan's sixth cultural heritage site on the UNESCO list and its first individual national nomination in 25 years to receive this status. ■
