SUVA, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The Consumer Council of Fiji has warned that many families in the island country are facing growing challenges in meeting everyday expenses due to rising prices and increasing living costs.

Seema Shandil, chief executive of the council, said the consumer environment remains challenging, as households struggle to cope with the impact of higher costs for essential goods and services, according to Fiji Broadcasting Corporation.

Global factors, including ongoing tensions in the Middle East, are also contributing to cost pressures, she added.

Shandil said the council continues to receive complaints and is monitoring market trends to identify concerns affecting consumers.

The council will continue working with businesses, regulators and communities to address unfair practices and strengthen consumer protection, she said.
