PHNOM PENH, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The Cambodian national football team suffered a 2-1 defeat to Singapore on Friday night at the Morodok Techo National Stadium during their opening Group A match of the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026.
The Singaporean squad broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when forward Shawal Anuar found the back of the net to give his side the lead.
Cambodia fought back early in the second half, leveling the score in the 55th minute through a goal from defender Ouk Sovann. However, Singapore sealed the victory in dramatic fashion during stoppage time, with forward Ilhan Fandi scoring the winner.
Cambodia is competing in a challenging Group A alongside Vietnam, Indonesia, Singapore, and Timor-Leste for the regional tournament, which runs from July 24 to August 26. ■
