WELLINGTON, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Artists from China Coal Mine Art Troupe on Friday performed at Flat Bush School in Auckland, New Zealand, drawing some 500 spectators, including parents.
The school welcomed the Chinese artists with a traditional Maori welcoming ceremony, and performed haka dances and songs of different ethnicities to express appreciation and friendship.
Chinese artists presented a diabolo performance titled "Dazzle," a Peking Opera act featuring water-sleeve movements and stylized gestures, a fast-paced Kuaiban (rhythmic storytelling) performance, a face-changing act, and the traditional magic show "Celebrating a Bumper Harvest."
During the interactions, students tried their hands at diabolo, water-sleeve techniques and Kuaiban performance, sparking a frequent outburst of laughter and applause from the audience.
Banapa Avatea, principal of the school, said the performances offered an unforgettable experience of Chinese culture for the students and teachers.
The students and teachers sang the Chinese folk song "Jasmine Flower" together in Chinese. ■
