VIENTIANE, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The Lao government is seeking to strengthen measures to prevent and combat internet-related crimes, online gambling, and online scams.
Laos' Ministry of Public Security on Thursday issued a notice urging government agencies, organizations, special economic zones, casino operators, businesses, property owners, Lao citizens, foreign nationals, and stateless persons to remain vigilant against cybercrime.
The notice urged all relevant parties to raise public awareness of the methods used by cybercriminals, including online fraud and scams. It also encouraged the public to cooperate with authorities by promptly reporting suspicious activities, providing information and evidence, and assisting in the identification and arrest of offenders.
The notice also outlines the responsibilities of property owners when authorities investigate online gambling operations. Owners of private homes, rental properties, apartments, guesthouses, hotels, and other buildings found to be linked to such crimes must cooperate fully with law enforcement. In addition, property owners are required to assist authorities in temporarily detaining suspects at the premises until police complete their investigation. Property owners directly involved in criminal activities will be held accountable in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
The ministry said the notice is intended to strengthen nationwide cooperation in combating cybercrime and online gambling and called on all relevant parties to strictly comply with its provisions. ■
