WELLINGTON, July 23 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) has renewed its advice for New Zealanders in Iran to leave the country "if it is safe and possible to do so," following renewed U.S. threats of military action.
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the United States would strike Iranian civil infrastructure whenever Tehran fires at ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
MFAT said that a limited number of commercial flights were still operating from Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran, but warned that airspace closures could occur at any time, Radio New Zealand reported on Thursday.
The ministry said land routes via Turkey and Armenia remained viable and had been used successfully by other New Zealanders to leave Iran. ■
