MANILA, July 21 (Xinhua) -- An off-duty Philippine police officer was shot dead while trying to intervene in a fight inside a karaoke bar in Capiz province in the central Philippines on Monday, according to local media reports.
Police said the officer was dining with two fellow officers when a dispute broke out among customers. After the bar owner asked for help, he approached the group to calm the situation, but one of the men pulled out a handgun and shot him in the chest. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities arrested the suspected gunman at the scene and recovered the handgun allegedly used in the shooting, while two other men fled and remain at large. Investigation efforts are underway. ■
