BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Brunei's Tourism Development Department, in collaboration with the Forestry Department, has launched a one-year Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) certification project for two of the country's premier ecotourism destinations.

In a press release issued on Monday, the department announced that the project will cover Ulu Temburong National Park in Brunei's "Green Jewel" district of Temburong and Luagan Lalak Recreational Park in the oil-rich Belait District.

The initiative is aimed at enhancing the sustainable management of both parks in line with internationally recognized GSTC standards.

The certification project also supports Brunei's broader national development agenda, including Brunei Vision 2035, the Brunei Tourism Industry Roadmap 2024-2035, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

According to the department, the initiative promotes environmental stewardship, community well-being, and sustainable economic development, reinforcing Brunei's commitment to developing a resilient and environmentally responsible tourism industry.
