MALE, July 19 (Xinhua) -- The Maldives has opened its first shark research center in Fuvahmulah City, PSM News, the country's state media, reported on Saturday.
The center will conduct research on sharks, provide marine-life education and strengthen cooperation among scientists, conservationists and local communities, PSM News said.
Local authorities and diving centers have promoted Fuvahmulah as a leading shark-diving destination, PSM News said, adding that the city won the Best Shark Diving Destination award at Asia's largest diving expo in December 2024.
Maldives is one of the leading shark tourism destinations in the world. ■
