KATHMANDU, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments to Nepal during the fiscal year 2025-26, which ended on Thursday, reached 375.5 million U.S. dollars, with the agriculture sector attracting the largest share, the Department of Industry said on Friday.

According to statistics released by the department, FDI commitments during the fiscal year fell short of the 420.62 million dollars pledged in the previous fiscal year.

In fiscal year 2025-26, the agriculture sector received the highest FDI commitment, amounting to 150.12 million dollars.

The tourism sector received the second-largest FDI commitment, amounting to 90.57 million dollars. It was followed by the energy, service, manufacturing, infrastructure, information and communication technology, and mineral sectors.

A total of 1,116 projects received FDI commitments during the fiscal year, the department said.

Despite recent improvements in investment commitments, Nepal continues to receive only a modest amount of FDI, with foreign investment accounting for less than 1 percent of the country's gross domestic product.

According to the World Investment Report 2026, published recently by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Nepal recorded a sharp decline in FDI inflows in 2024 and 2025.
