SYDNEY, July 17 (Xinhua) -- A 16-year-old boy has been hospitalized with serious injuries following the third stabbing involving teenagers in the northeast Australian state of Queensland in four days.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) said on Friday that emergency services were called to reports that a boy had been stabbed during an altercation involving a group of teenagers known to each other in the eastern suburbs of Brisbane on Thursday night.

The 16-year-old boy was located at the scene with serious injuries and transported to hospital for treatment.

Police officers established a crime scene and a 17-year-old boy was arrested nearby. He has been charged with one count of wounding.

The incident was the third stabbing involving teenage boys in Queensland since Monday.

A 17-year-old boy was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after he was allegedly stabbed by a 16-year-old at a school in southern Brisbane on Tuesday.

In the far northern city of Cairns, a 15-year-old was allegedly stabbed by another 15-year-old at a school on Monday.

Prosecutors told a court on Wednesday that the victim was stabbed six times during a pre-arranged fight. He was hospitalized in stable condition.
