JAKARTA, July 17 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and eight others injured in a nine-vehicle pile-up in Indonesia's North Sumatra province on Friday, local police said.
The accident occurred on a road in Deli Serdang regency and involved three trucks, five minibuses and a motorcycle.
North Sumatra police spokesperson Ferry Walintukan said six of the injured were taken to Adam Malik Hospital in the provincial capital of Medan, while two others were treated at a nearby health clinic.
"Four people were killed. Six of the injured were referred to Adam Malik Hospital in Medan, while two others are being treated at the health clinic," Ferry said.
Police suspect that a truck driven by a 50-year-old man triggered the collision. The driver has been detained for questioning, while the cause of the accident remains under investigation. ■
