MANILA, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines inaugurated the first phase of an integrated solar and battery storage facility in its northern Nueva Ecija province, according to local media reports on Tuesday.
Phase one of the project is expected to become fully commercially operational by August, and phase two began early this year and is targeted for completion by 2027.
Once both phases are completed, it will build up a power generation capacity of 3,500 megawatts and a battery storage capacity of 4,500 megawatt-hours.
Officials said it is expected to provide electricity to about 2.4 million households and reduce carbon emissions by about 4.3 million metric tonnes annually.
However, regulators noted that the Philippines' renewable energy rollout remains slower than expected. ■
