MANILA, July 15 (Xinhua) -- Twelve Filipino survivors of human trafficking were repatriated from Cambodia and arrived in the Philippines, where they received government assistance and reintegration support, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Wednesday.
The group returned after Philippine officials visited Cambodia to open a new Migrant Workers Office in Phnom Penh, which aims to strengthen the protection and welfare of overseas Filipino workers.
The survivors were provided with financial assistance, temporary accommodation, transportation and other support before returning to their home provinces. The DMW said they would also receive legal assistance.
The agency also urged Filipinos to avoid unverified overseas job offers, particularly those posted on social media, and to verify employment opportunities through the government to avoid falling victim to human trafficking. ■
