HANOI, July 14 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's capital Hanoi has been urged to intensify its efforts and take more drastic measures in the second half of the year to achieve its 2026 gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth target of 11 percent, the Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday.

The call was made by Politburo member Do Van Chien, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, while addressing a session of the 17th Hanoi People's Council for the 2026-2031 tenure on Tuesday.

According to a report presented at the meeting, Hanoi's GRDP expanded by 8.22 percent in the first half of 2026.

Vu Dai Thang, chairman of the municipal people's committee, said the city regards achieving the 11-percent GRDP growth target as a top political priority and will not lower the target, local daily Dai Bieu Nhan Dan reported.

Under the city's growth scenario, Hanoi will need to achieve growth of 12.54 percent in the third quarter and 14.26 percent in the fourth quarter to meet the full-year target, he said.
