ISLAMABAD, July 13 (Xinhua) -- A two-day ministerial conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on women opened here on Sunday evening, focusing on promoting women's empowerment, gender inclusion and sustainable development across the Muslim world while strengthening cooperation among member states.

At the opening ceremony, Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the conference would help transform commitments on women's empowerment into measurable progress across OIC member states.

Looking ahead to the ministerial session, Dar hoped that delegates would deliberate on issues of profound importance to women and girls across the Muslim world.

Pakistani Minister of Law and Justice, Azam Nazeer Tarar, said the conference provides a platform for participating countries to exchange experiences and best practices in areas including education, health, entrepreneurship and women's economic participation, while exploring ways to enhance collaboration on policies aimed at improving the status of women.

According to an official statement, the event will also facilitate bilateral and multilateral engagements among participating delegations in areas such as trade, education, culture, development and security.

The conference is likely to adopt a joint declaration outlining shared commitments to strengthening women's role in development and deepening cooperation among OIC member states.
