NEW DELHI, July 11 (Xinhua) -- An indigenously built advanced stealth frigate, "INS Mahendragiri," was inducted into the eastern fleet of the Indian Navy on Saturday.

The induction ceremony was held in Visakhapatnam, the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, in the presence of India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the warship reflects India's growing self-reliance in shipbuilding, underpinned by strong design and manufacturing capabilities, a rapidly expanding naval-industrial ecosystem, and timely delivery of an advanced platform.

With over 75 percent indigenous content, the warship has a displacement of approximately 6,670 tonnes and can reach a speed of up to 28 knots, said an official statement issued by the Ministry of Defence.
