KABUL, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 200 schools in eastern Afghanistan's Ghazni province lack buildings, while the structures of 350 schools are in urgent need of reconstruction, local media outlet TOLOnews reported on Tuesday, citing a provincial official.

Ghazni currently has 675 schools, of which 350 need comprehensive reconstruction. Currently, only 21 school buildings across the province are under reconstruction, TOLOnews quoted Mir Nasir Ahmad Hussaini, the provincial director of education, as saying.

Although land has been allocated for the schools, the absence of facilities continues to hinder access to education, according to the official.

Located 125 km east of the capital Kabul, Ghazni epitomizes Afghanistan's deepening education crisis, where millions of children, particularly in rural areas, are denied formal schooling amid widespread poverty, vast distances, displacement, and acute shortages of basic resources.
