KABUL, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have discovered and demolished more than 1 ton of illegal drugs in the western Ghor province, said a statement of the national army stationed in the region on Tuesday.
Based on an intelligence report, personnel of the national army launched operations in Shahrak district recently. After the discovery of 1.1 tons of illicit drugs, they destroyed them on the spot, the statement said.
The statement warned that the war against producing and smuggling illegal drugs will continue until the once-poppy-growing nation becomes free of the drug menace.
On Monday, the Afghan national army reported the seizure and smashing of a drug-processing lab and the arrest of two people in the eastern Nangarhar province. ■
