HANOI, July 3 (Xinhua) -- Vietnamese authorities have alerted 56,240 vessels and 249,184 people to Typhoon Maysak's latest developments and projected path, helping them to avoid dangerous waters and move to safe areas, the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority said Friday.
Typhoon Maysak is forecast to move toward waters off northern Vietnam and affect the country's northeastern region in the coming days, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.
The northern province of Quang Ninh banned vessels from going to sea from Friday noon, while Ninh Binh province imposed a similar ban from 2:00 p.m. the same day.
The center also warned that rivers across northeastern Vietnam could experience flooding from Saturday through next Tuesday.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has instructed local authorities in Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa to take measures to safeguard dyke systems against the typhoon, heavy rain and flooding expected in its aftermath, the Vietnam News Agency reported. ■
