DHAKA, June 30 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi parliament on Tuesday passed a record 9.38 trillion taka (nearly 77 billion U.S. dollars) national budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 (July 2026-June 2027).

The country's Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury had earlier placed before the parliament the first annual budget of the government of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The parliament passed the budget by voice vote on the last working day of the current 2025-26 fiscal year with some adjustments.

In line with the budget, the Bangladeshi government aims to reduce inflation to 7.5 percent and raise GDP growth to 6.5 percent in the upcoming fiscal year.

The total size of the expenditure budget is 13.7 percent of the South Asian country's GDP, according to the minister.
