BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, June 25 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic economy presents a strategic opportunity for Brunei as the nation already possesses many key foundations needed to further develop the sector, a Brunei minister has said.
Haji Abdul Manaf Haji Metussin, coordinating minister for economic policies and minister of economy, trade and industry, on Wednesday highlighted the importance of strengthening the Islamic economy ecosystem during the opening of the Brunei Islamic Economy Conference (BIE-CON) 2026 held near the capital.
The minister said the key foundations in place include a sound regulatory and supervisory framework, an internationally recognized halal industry, and the nation's enduring commitment to the national philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy.
The minister said these strengths give Brunei a strong platform to build a more integrated Islamic economy, one that can drive diversification, strengthen resilience, and contribute meaningfully to Brunei's long-term growth. ■
