JAKARTA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia is moving toward a circular economy in the electric vehicle (EV) battery industry to address challenges related to mineral supply, decarbonization, and sustainable resources, an official said Wednesday.
Ahmad Faisal Suralaga, director of downstreaming strategy and governance at the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industry, said the government is no longer focusing only on extracting raw materials for battery production, but also promoting recycling.
He said battery recycling will strengthen Indonesia's position in the EV battery supply chain and support the country's ambition to build an integrated industry, from raw material processing to end-product manufacturing.
The government is also reforming business policies and developing an integrated system to simplify investment procedures, while considering international standards, Ahmad said. ■
