KABUL, June 24 (Xinhua) -- A chromite stone processing factory has been inaugurated in eastern Afghanistan's Logar province with an investment of 1 million U.S. dollars, the provincial government office said Wednesday.
The factory, equipped with modern machinery and technology, has the capacity to process up to 500 tons of chromite ore per day, the statement said.
Officials said the project is expected to contribute to the development of the mining sector, increase domestic processing of mineral resources, and create employment opportunities for local residents.
Afghanistan possesses significant chromite reserves, and the establishment of processing facilities is seen as an important step toward adding value to the country's mineral resources and supporting economic growth. ■
