NEW DELHI, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in the ammonia gas leak at a seafood unit in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday rose to 10, officials said.
The ammonia leak originated from the seafood processing unit on Sunday and spread across the premises. Following the leak, workers present at the facility complained of breathing difficulties, while some suffered bleeding from the mouth and nose.
A senior government official, S Kavitha, on Sunday told media that a total of 67 affected workers were rushed to local medical centres following the gas leak.
Reports said around 120 migrant workers, including women from Assam, Odisha and Jharkhand, were staying on the factory premises in the accommodations provided by the company. ■
