KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia will accelerate the development of its low-altitude economy (LAE), which it sees as a potential new engine of economic growth, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said here on Wednesday.
While Malaysia has a solid base in traditional aviation and aerospace industries, it has not leveraged opportunities for maintenance, repair and overhaul and manufacturing in the LAE sector, Loke said in his keynote address at the inaugural Low Altitude Economy Forum 2026.
Loke also said that while traditional aviation and aerospace industries were well understood and developed, the standards and frameworks for the LAE are being developed globally, and Malaysia must take this opportunity to develop its own frameworks and standards.
Loke added that guidelines on the LAE are expected to be announced by the end of this year, providing a regulatory, operational and governance framework to support the safe integration of airspace into the economic sector. ■
