Man arrested for poaching endangered red deer in Mongolia

ULAN BATOR, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Mongolian police have arrested a man suspected of illegally hunting an endangered red deer, the country's Ecological Police Department said on Sunday.

The suspect was detained this week in Tsagaannuur soum, an administrative subdivision in northern Mongolia's Selenge province, according to the police department.

Authorities said the case remains under investigation.

Under Mongolian law, individuals convicted of poaching and killing endangered red deer may face a fine of up to 27 million Mongolian tugriks (approximately 7,520 U.S. dollars) or a prison sentence of between one and five years.
