ULAN BATOR, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia plans to restore 54,000 hectares of degraded land over the next five years, Tsend Sandag-Ochir, the country's minister of environment and climate change, announced on Wednesday.

"The government has approved a plan to rehabilitate land damaged by mining activities. Nationwide, around 54,000 hectares of land have been degraded as a result of irresponsible mining practices, illegal extraction, and transportation operations," Sandag-Ochir said.

He added that the restoration work will be carried out between 2026 and 2030 as part of the government's efforts to rehabilitate environmentally damaged areas and promote sustainable land management.
