ULAN BATOR, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia on Sunday marked World Blood Donor Day, which falls on June 14 annually, paying tribute to voluntary, unpaid blood donors.

To commemorate the occasion, the National Center for Transfusion Medicine (NCTM) organized a ceremony honoring voluntary blood donors and employees of organizations that actively support blood donation activities. Around 100 donors were recognized for their contributions during the event.

Mongolia fully transitioned to a 100-percent voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation system in 2016, according to the center.

The Asian country, which has a population of 3.5 million, currently has more than 210,000 registered blood donors, including approximately 46,000 regular active donors.

In 2025, the NCTM collected nearly 47,000 units of blood nationwide and produced more than 129,000 units of blood and blood products for distribution to healthcare institutions across the country.
