VIENTIANE, June 12 (Xinhua) -- Laos has reaffirmed its commitment to eliminating all forms of child labor and to protecting the rights and well-being of children.

In his message marking the World Day Against Child Labor on Friday, Lao Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Welfare Phongxaysack Inthalath described child labor as a global challenge and highlighted the ongoing efforts of the International Labor Organization and its member states to eliminate the practice.

Phongxaysack stated that Laos has consistently prioritized child protection and development, recognizing children as a valuable national resource and the future inheritors of the country's development.

Over the years, Laos introduced policies, strategies, laws and regulations to protect children and address child labor, while also strengthening implementation mechanisms and participating in regional and international initiatives through relevant conventions and cooperation frameworks.

Looking ahead, he stressed the importance of increasing awareness among families, communities, employers and other stakeholders about children's rights and the need to protect them from inappropriate or hazardous work.

Phongxaysack called on government agencies, the private sector, development partners, and both domestic and international organizations to strengthen cooperation and translate commitments into practical actions through effective plans, strategies and regulations. He also appealed for continued technical and financial support to eliminate child labor and to promote decent and fair employment.
