JAKARTA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia recorded 4.68 million foreign tourist arrivals during the January-April period of 2026, the highest level for the same period since 2020, according to data released by Statistics Indonesia (BPS) on Tuesday.

The figure was up 8.24 percent year on year, reflecting the continued recovery of the country's tourism sector.

"Overall, the number of foreign tourist arrivals in April 2026 reached 1.25 million visits, increasing 14.75 percent month on month and 7.22 percent year on year," BPS Deputy for Statistical Methodology and Information Pudji Ismartini told a press conference.

The increase was recorded across major air, sea and land entry points, indicating broad-based growth in inbound tourism.

Indonesia has stepped up efforts to attract international visitors through destination development, improved connectivity and tourism promotion as it seeks to sustain the sector's post-pandemic recovery.
