JAKARTA, June 3 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Communications and Digital Ministry said on Tuesday that foreign low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellite operators, including Starlink, must comply with domestic regulations while supporting the country's digital sovereignty goals.

Ministry Secretary-General Ismail said Indonesia seeks to balance foreign investment with the protection of national strategic interests.

"They are required to establish network operations centers here and comply with content regulations," he told local news portal Bisnis.com.

Indonesia's vast archipelagic geography makes satellite connectivity an important complement to terrestrial broadband and mobile networks, he said.

The government is also seeking to integrate satellite services with artificial intelligence technologies to expand internet access in remote areas and support sectors such as education, healthcare and small businesses.
