JAKARTA, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's meteorological authority on Sunday issued an early warning for potential coastal flooding across several areas of Bali, the country's famed resort island.

Cahyo Nugroho, head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency Region III, said the full moon phenomenon on Sunday is expected to trigger a significant rise in sea levels. The potential for flooding is projected to persist through June 5.

Based on water-level monitoring and tidal forecasts, the warning covers the southern coastline of the island, including several tourist hubs.

Authorities warned that the higher-than-normal tides could disrupt port operations and impact coastal settlements, salt ponds, and inland fisheries.

The public has been urged to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures against the potential impacts of the high tides over the coming days.
