KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia has condemned an Israeli plan aimed to increase its military's control over the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

The move is illegal, politically unacceptable, and an egregious violation of international law, the United Nations (UN) Charter, as well as numerous UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, it said in a statement.

"Malaysia calls on the international community and the UN to unequivocally reject the plan, warning that any attempt to alter the territorial reality of Gaza will further undermine prospects for peace and justice," it said.

It added that the move is calculated to deprive the Palestinian people of their legitimate and inalienable rights, including their right to an independent and sovereign state on their own territory.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that he has issued a directive to increase the Israeli military's control over the Gaza Strip from 60 percent to 70 percent of the territory, drawing criticism from various parties, including the United Nations.
