ULAN BATOR, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's spring livestock birthing season is continuing nationwide, with 76 percent of the country's breeding livestock having given birth so far, the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry said Friday.

According to the ministry, around 17.04 million breeding animals out of the expected 22.4 million livestock this season have successfully delivered offspring.

The ministry also reported that the nationwide survival rate of newborn livestock currently stands at around 99 percent.

The spring birthing season is considered one of the most important periods for Mongolia's livestock sector, as herders closely monitor weather conditions, pasture availability, and animal health to ensure the healthy growth and survival of newborn animals that support the country's agricultural economy.

Livestock herding remains a key sector in Mongolia, which is widely known for its nomadic heritage. Developing the livestock industry is also regarded as one of the most effective ways to diversify the Asian country's mining-dependent economy.

According to the National Statistics Office, Mongolia had 58.1 million head of livestock at the end of 2025, representing a 0.8 percent increase compared with the previous year.
