SEOUL, May 29 (Xinhua) -- South Korea on Friday kicked off early voting for local elections and parliamentary by-elections to elect mayors, governors and local council members as well as 14 lawmakers.
The advance voting will last from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time on Friday and Saturday at 3,571 polling stations across the country, according to the National Election Commission.
At stake are 16 metropolitan mayors and provincial governors, 227 municipal mayors, 933 members in metropolitan and provincial councils, 3,035 members in municipal councils, 16 superintendents of education and 14 members of the National Assembly.
The election day is scheduled for June 3, with 44,649,908 eligible voters expected to cast their ballots. ■
