MANILA, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Five people were killed and 22 others injured after a six-wheeler truck carrying 39 passengers overturned on a mountain road in Kabayan town in Benguet province, northern Philippines, on Thursday morning, said local authorities.
The Kabayan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said it received a report at around 10 a.m. local time, and that the accident was due to a mechanical failure.
According to an initial investigation, five deaths were confirmed, including two boys aged 3 and 11. Ten passengers sustained critical injuries such as head trauma and bone fractures, and 12, including the truck driver, were slightly injured. ■
