JAKARTA, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed the government's commitment to expanding productive aquaculture projects nationwide to strengthen food security and support growth in the fisheries sector.
Prabowo made the remarks after inspecting operations at the area-based shrimp farming project in Kebumen, Central Java, on Saturday.
"We are committed to expanding productive fish and shrimp ponds in many regions," Prabowo said, adding that the program would continue to be rolled out in areas with strong aquaculture potential.
He also underscored the importance of adopting modern and integrated farming systems to improve production efficiency while ensuring environmental sustainability.
Prabowo said the government seeks to promote downstream development in the fisheries industry and create more employment opportunities in coastal regions.
Under Prabowo's administration, Indonesia has intensified efforts to strengthen food resilience and develop the maritime sector, including by revitalizing aquaculture infrastructure and production facilities.
The government expects the expansion of productive aquaculture projects to help secure domestic food supplies and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian fisheries products in global markets. ■
