BISHKEK, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Numerous projects implemented through Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation are facilitating Kyrgyzstan's development as the two countries are committed to supporting each other on issues concerning their fundamental interests, said a Kyrgyz lawmaker.

The prospects for bilateral relations are very favorable, said Ulan Primov, head of the parliamentary friendship group for cooperation with China and a member of parliament, in a written interview with Xinhua.

Primov said many significant Kyrgyz-Chinese cooperation projects have indeed been implemented in recent years. Among the most impressive, he highlighted the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, the modernization of roads and energy facilities, and the advancement of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which "has historical significance for the entire region."

"These projects have a significant positive impact on Kyrgyzstan's development," he said, adding that they help improve infrastructure and transport connectivity, create jobs, and expand opportunities for trade and investment, while also strengthening the country's role as a transit and logistics hub between East and West.

Primov noted that such projects also help strengthen humanitarian ties and friendship between the peoples of the two countries. "The more actively cooperation develops, the greater the mutual understanding, cultural exchange, and trust between the Kyrgyz and Chinese peoples."

In 2027, China and Kyrgyzstan will celebrate the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Kyrgyzstan and China have consistently supported each other on issues affecting their fundamental interests and sovereignty, he said.

"Kyrgyzstan is committed to the one-China principle, recognizes the government of the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate government of China, and considers Taiwan an inalienable part of China," he emphasized, adding that this position is consistent with Kyrgyzstan's official foreign policy, the principles of international law, and United Nations resolutions.

Primov said that over these years, Kyrgyz-Chinese relations have reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era, based on mutual respect, equality, and consideration of each other's interests.

According to the lawmaker, bilateral cooperation is currently developing not only in trade and economic matters, but also in transport, energy, education, digitalization, culture, and interregional ties. "Kyrgyzstan is interested in further expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with China, especially within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative," he said.

Primov added that the legislative bodies of the two countries play a special role in strengthening Kyrgyz-Chinese relations.

"Interparliamentary diplomacy contributes to the strengthening of political trust, the improvement of the legal framework, and the exchange of experience in public administration and lawmaking. Regular contacts between parliaments allow for a better understanding of each other's positions and create a solid basis for long-term cooperation," he concluded.
