SYDNEY, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Three people have died following a two-car crash in Sydney's south early Saturday, police in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW) said.

About 12:25 a.m. Saturday, police attended a home in Gymea Bay, some 30 km southwest of Sydney's central business district, following reports of a concern for welfare, NSW police said in a statement.

Officers attempted to speak to a 42-year-old man at the address. However, before police could engage with him, the man allegedly drove away from the scene in a white Audi.

Emergency services were later called to the southbound lanes on Rocky Point Road, Sans Souci, about a half-hour drive north of Gymea Bay, after reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Police arrived to find the Audi had rolled over a concrete barrier before landing on a blue Toyota sedan.

The 42-year-old driver of the Audi died at the scene, while the driver and passenger of the Toyota also died at the scene and have not yet been formally identified.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has commenced, according to police.
