KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 (Xinhua) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission on Friday published two regulatory codes under the Online Safety Act 2025, outlining measures that licensed online service providers must adopt to mitigate harmful content risks and strengthen protections for children online.

The Risk Mitigation Code requires licensed applications service providers and content applications service providers to implement measures, including content moderation, risk assessments, user controls and child online safety safeguards, in compliance with Section 13 of the law, the regulator said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Child Protection Code sets out requirements aimed at ensuring safer online use for children under Section 18 of the act, including restrictions for users below 16 years old, age verification mechanisms, parental controls, privacy settings and content moderation measures.

The commission said the codes were issued under Section 80 of the Online Safety Act 2025, which empowers the regulator to establish compliance requirements for licensed service providers.
