TOKYO, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Japan's inflation-adjusted real wages dropped 0.5 percent in fiscal 2025 from the previous year, marking the fourth consecutive yearly decline, government data showed Friday.

The pace of decline was unchanged from fiscal 2024, as wage growth failed to keep pace with rising prices, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare said.

In the fiscal year ended March, nominal wages, or the average monthly cash earnings per worker including base and overtime pay, rose 2.5 percent to 357,979 yen (about 2,250 U.S. dollars).

Regular pay, mainly comprising base salary, was up 2.4 percent at 269,631 yen in the reporting fiscal year.
